Ecuador is one of the very few countries where a menu at a regular looking restaurant will have the usual fare like lemon-marinated shrimp and pastries stuffed with spiced meats right next to bizarre cultural delights like bull penis’ soup (you read absolutely right, buddy!) and guinea pig meat. Japan is famous for its teas and the tea ceremony. It only follows, then, that one of the most elaborate tea-serving rituals in the world should have originated there. The Japanese tea ceremony – locally known as Sado, Chanoyu, or simply Ocha – started off about 700 years ago when Buddhist monks began exploring the ritual of serving tea as an art form. However, the ceremony, as practiced by them, was very simple in nature, and it was honed into a stylized, perfectly choreographed ritual by founder Sen No Rikkyum 200 years later. (more…)

There is not a single walkway in this city (and I don’t believe I’m exaggerating) without a stall catering to your gastronomic demands. The food zones are crammed with colorful stalls that sell an unending variety of noodles, soups, meats, fruits, drinks….it just never ends.
