Since time immemorial, aphrodisiacs have always intrigued man. Foods that could make your lover weak in his knees; that could unlock the doors to uncontrollable passion; increase the libido and turn you into an insatiable sexual God…what man or woman could deny such tall claims? Whether these claims were true or simply a myth unsubstantiated by medical proof hardly seemed to matter to anyone. When you believe in something so desperately, faith makes even tall claims come to life. Heck, even if these foods did squat to make you feel romantic, they are incredibly healthy. And I think, that’s as good a reason as any to snack on them occasionally.

For a beginner who’s experimenting with a various kinds of cocktails, perhaps the most challenging among them is the Martini. Thanks to the creative genius of several mixologists, there are several variations of this cocktail doing the rounds. While connoisseurs stand by the original Martini, or the “true Martini”, as they like to call it – a drink made from gin and dry vermouth, you are also sure to come across an Apple or Orange Martini. The coffee ceremony in Ethiopia is not a matter to trifle with. It’s a lot more than brewing coffee in an electric kettle and gulping down cup after cup as you tap away at the computer. For Ethiopians it is an ornate, yet serious, affair. In Japan, saké is considered to be drink for the Gods. It is not uncommon to find shrines to ‘Matsuosama’ – the most important sake-brewing deity – inside several Japanese breweries. This 100% natural drink is made from rice, koji (an enzyme), yeast, and of course water. There are around 65 different strains of rice that are used to make saké, and the most expensive and prized strain among them is the Yamada Nashiki, which is also considered to be the ‘king of saké rice’.
